Types of Survey
Types of Boat Survey
Survey prior to boat purchase (Pre- Purchase Survey)
Comprehensive Pre-Purchase Surveys are commissioned by a potential buyer before a boat purchase. The report will also be required by the buyer’s insurance company and perhaps by the buyer’s finance company. The buyer makes an offer on a boat “subject to survey”.
Survey required for Insurance & valuation
This survey is commissioned by an owner upon the request of his insurance company on renewal of his policy. Usually for boats over 20 years old.
Survey following boat damage
This survey is commissioned by an insurance company when a boat they insure has been damaged. In this instance as the boat owner you might also consider engaging an independent surveyor. We are happy to advise you
Survey post purchase or repair work (Acceptance Survey)
This is a comprehensive inspection of a new vessel commissioned by the eventual owner. This usually involves a sea trial. You might also commission a survey after repair work on your boat. This gives an extra assurance on the repair work carried out for your peace of mind.
Marlin Yacht Services also offers a valuation service. This is not a survey, but a limited inspection of a boat with a view to providing a figure of its market value.
If you have any questions regarding boat surveys and your boat is located on the South coast of the UK or in Mallorca or another Balearic Island please contact Martyn Jenkins on 00447 8878 01594
If you are uncertain as to whether you need a survey or not; perhaps you need advice on the condition of your epoxy paint; or indeed whether a certain type of boat would suit your needs; or even if you would simply like something about surveys explained please contact Marlin Yacht Surveys.
